Work for ROCKIN’ CAT

Pittsburgh's Certified Organic Coffee & Tea Company is hiring Baristas, Events Staff, Production Staff, & for the Sales Team.

Artists, designers, and makers especially welcome.

Who We Are

ROCKIN' CAT produces certified organic, certified fairtrade specialty coffees and certified organic teas, matchas, & herbal infusions in Pittsburgh. We sell our products at our cafes, online, & wholesale. Every ROCKIN' CAT product is produced without plastic processing equipment, packaged in fully compostable pouches, carbon neutral, & made in our near-zero-waste facility that is powered by 100% wind-generated renewable electricity. We are a Certified B Corp and a core member of #BreakFreeFromPlastic.

No other coffee or tea company in Pittsburgh can say all of that. Here's what that looks like in practice:

  • Certified USDA Organic. Every coffee and tea we sell, without exception, is certified organic. Not most of them. All of them.

  • Certified (FLO ID) Fairtrade. Better prices & fairer conditions for the farmers who grow the coffee that we sell. A baseline we hold ourselves to, not a marketing decision.

  • 100% Compostable Packaging. The bag, the zipper, the valve, the label — all of it meets ASTM D6400, EN13432, & TÜV compostability standards. The packaging industry’s default is harmful plastics. Ours is not.

  • Carbon Neutral. All business impacts are measured & offset via Gold Standard-verified carbon credits. Our production facility is powered entirely by wind-generated electricity from Green Mountain Energy.

  • Certified B Corp. Rigorous, verified standards for social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency. Not self-reported.

  • Specialty Coffee Association, Coffee Roasters Guild, & International Specialty Tea Association Member. Serious about the craft, and connected to the organizations that advance it.

  • Break Free From Plastic — Core Member. Actively part of the movement to completely eliminate single-use plastics, not just reduce them.

No national specialty coffee brand holds all of these certifications and maintains all of these principles at once. No local Pittsburgh competitor does either. When you work at ROCKIN' CAT, you're representing something genuinely unique. Everything you tell a customer about our products is something you can back up.

We also think differently about who belongs on our team. We love hiring professional artists — musicians, designers, photographers, illustrators, writers, and makers of every kind — and people who are working toward that. Art and design aren't peripheral to what ROCKIN' CAT is; they're central to it. If you make things, we'd love to hear about it.

Who Is This For

You already care about where your food, coffee, & tea come from. You know what certified organic means and why it matters. Fairtrade isn’t a buzzword to you — it’s something you actually think about. You believe that good design and careful craft make a real difference, and you hold yourself to a standard you’re proud of.

You’re looking for work that feels like a natural extension of who you are — somewhere your values are shared, your curiosity is welcome, & the things you care about are taken seriously.

You might be an experienced barista who’s tired of places that don’t match your standards. You might be an artist or designer looking for work that fits your life and your worldview. You might be someone who simply wants to be part of something that’s genuinely doing things the right way.

If any of that resonates, we’d like to hear from you.

What We’re Looking For

We’re currently hiring for four roles: Baristas, Events Staff, Production Staff, & for the Sales Team. Every role shares a common foundation — a genuine connection to what ROCKIN’ CAT stands for, a natural inclination to share our products with customers (not just serve them), and the kind of reliability & care that makes a team work well together.

Baristas - Front-of-house · Cafes

You know your way around espresso & manual brewing — not just how to pull a shot, but how to dial-one-in and explain why it matters. You’re comfortable talking about what makes our coffees & teas special, and you enjoy helping customers find something they’ll love, including something to take home. SCA certifications are a plus and something we genuinely appreciate.

Events Staff - Off-site · Pop-ups & markets

Farmers markets, pop-ups, and night markets are where you’ll shine. You’re energized by fast-paced environments, comfortable working outdoors and on your feet, and good at representing a brand naturally and confidently without a lot of hand-holding. You see events as a chance to connect people with products they’ll become loyal to.

Production Staff - Behind the scenes · Roastery

You take quiet pride in doing things right. Packaging, production, & fulfillment require attention to detail and consistency, and you’re the kind of person who brings that naturally. You understand that what leaves our facility carries the ROCKIN’ CAT name, and that means something to you.

Sales - Wholesale · Stockists

You build relationships easily and follow through reliably. You’re genuinely excited about what ROCKIN’ CAT is, and that comes through when you talk to prospective wholesale customers and retail stockists. You’re not looking to push product — you’re looking to connect the right businesses with something they’ll be glad they found and offer.

All positions include paid training, employee discounts, and a team that genuinely cares about the work.

What Working Here Looks Like

Every person on the ROCKIN’ CAT team is encouraged to know our products deeply and share them enthusiastically. We don’t just want people who can fill orders — we want people who are genuinely excited to tell a customer why our packaging composts completely and what makes a single-origin FTO coffee different from what’s on the grocery store shelf.

We have clear standards and we support each other in meeting them. We document what good looks like so that everyone knows what’s expected and can feel confident doing their job well.

This is a place where your values, your curiosity, and your craft are all welcome. We take our work seriously and we try to make it worth taking seriously.
